Building In Isolation

Maybe you’ve always felt like a square peg occupying a round hole…

Perhaps your greatest accomplishments are consistently met with confusion and awkward silences. 🦗

It appears that your viewers’ favorite responses are 👎 “dislike” and “unsubscribe”…

So you’re left with no choice but to continue crafting your dream alone…

Don’t despair. Your dream might be radically different because it’s ahead of its time. It’s okay if people can’t understand the value of your vision; they just lack the ability to appreciate the finished product before it’s done.

… But that doesn’t give you the right to stop working. If you’re certain of the value that your gift brings to the world, keep working to build it. Your detractors will eventually come around. (Just don’t be surprised if they pop up when the days|months|years of toil are finally over – to suddenly proclaim you an overnight success!) 🤣

Current circumstances may have you misunderstood and building by your lonesome, but that actually places you in good company. There’s an army of isolated, misunderstood business builders working all around you. Congratulations on enlisting in the ranks of this elite (yet invisible) collective!

Not sure you believe? No worries. Here are a few well-known (yet misunderstood) business successes! 👇

  • Before he went on to hold more than 1,000 patents, a young Thomas Edison was described as being “addled” by his earliest teachers. In fact, he was eventually pulled from formal classes by his mother as a result.
  • Sir James Dyson spent 15 years discovering 5,126 ways to make bagless vacuums that didn’t work… and then he identified a bagless configuration that performed and went on to suck up billions of dollars in profit.
  • Oprah Winfrey was fired from her first television position as a Baltimore news reporter for a tendency to become overly invested in her stories. According to Oprah, “They told me I was the wrong color, the wrong size, and that I showed too much emotion.” Despite these attributes, she went on to happily give away cars and gifts on her award-winning daytime talk show before starting her OWN television network.
  • Steve Jobs co-founded Apple, only to be ungraciously discharged from the company that he helped to create. During his sabbatical, Jobs helped to fund the company that would later become Pixar. When he returned to Apple almost 10 years later, Jobs championed the design of a new generation of products, including the iPod, iPad, and iPhone.

… So keep on keeping on. The world needs what you’re building. It simply doesn’t know it yet. 😉

“For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, says the Lord, thoughts of peace and not of evil, to give you a future and a hope.”

– Jeremiah 29:11 [NKJV]
